Memories of Church Street

I told Teadora to watch her mother. The stairs have no ending; she will fall and no lemons will cure the malady. Just before dawn, there is Italian shouting; the kitchen smells like blood, and there is sorrow smeared on the walls. I told Teodora to watch.

The Blood

It is dolent, the heart. Going on, bloodied, with love watching, rising and, fattened, quiet. How, with your hands, is there no God?
